Quilt Restoration part 2…the end

I spent about 93 hours restoring Amanda’s quilt. I explained in a previous blog all about the start and what would happen. 93 hours later…here is the finished quilt. It looks just like the original! Fresh and crisp and crinkly…just the way she wanted it. The threads that were embroidered were very threadbare and some of the fabric was too. I sat meticulously tweezing out each thread, often separating the fabrics of this crazy quilt. After I appliqued all the background pieces in place I took the heavy old quilt back to the sewing machine to use the decorative stitches as I was not going to hand stitch anything.

Once the decorative stitches were done and the border was applied it was time to take the quilt to the big girl…my longarm quilting machine. I quilted all the unquilted places and border and quilted over the stitches that I left from grandma. I just wanted to give them a little more time…then on to binding. So many layers!!

I enjoyed every minute of working on this quilt. Was it worth it? Absolutely! Will I do another? I have no idea but it is something I would consider on a quilt by quilt basis. Here are some pictures of the progress…enjoy!
