๐Ÿงต FAQ & Quilt Prep Guide

If you're preparing your quilt for longarm quilting, this guide will help you feel confident and ready.

๐Ÿงต Backing Fabric Guidelines

Recommended Backings

High-quality quilting cotton or cotton flannel are ideal backing choices.
They load smoothly on the longarm frame, hold securely to batting, and produce the most consistent stitching results.

108" wide backing fabrics are especially helpful, as they reduce seams and create a cleaner finish.

Minky, Cuddle & Plush Backings

Minky and plush fabrics create a beautifully soft and cozy finish and are a popular choice for baby quilts and comfort quilts.

Because of their stretch, weight, and texture, they behave differently during longarm quilting. These fabrics:

• Shed when cut
• Require pinning rather than spray basting for secure loading
• Add extra weight and drag to the machine
• Do not grip batting the same way cotton fabrics do

For these reasons, minky and plush backings require additional setup and handling time, and a small surcharge may apply.

If you're considering minky, I’m happy to help you decide if it’s the best option for your quilt.

Before drop-off or shipping:

• Backing and batting must extend at least 4" beyond the quilt top on all sides
